Time Magazine Names Elon Musk Person of the Year

Billionaire Elon Musk has been named Person of the Year by Time magazine. The CEO of, among others, car brand Tesla and aerospace company SpaceX receives this title for the enormous influence he exerts worldwide.

“Few individuals have had more of an impact on life on Earth than Musk has,” said Time, adding that the same may be true for space. According to the magazine, he changed the car market with his electric cars and SpaceX is described as a frontrunner in the field of commercial space travel.

The American is the richest person in the world, with a net worth of about $284 billion. But, according to Time, musk made his money in a different way than his fellow billionaires. “Instead of one great idea, he had several. And instead of several smart and safe investments, he opted for a few spectacularly risky investments.”

Every year since 1927, Time has chosen one person who has had the most influence. The title can also go to more than one person, which was the case last year with President Joe Biden and his Vice President Kamala Harris. In 2019, climate activist Greta Thunberg was the person of the year. More than twenty years ago, the magazine was still talking about man or woman of the year.
