In the United Kingdom, for the first time since April, more than 1000 people have died in 24 hours from the effects of the coronavirus.
A record 62,322 new infections were also reported, partly due to the more contagious “British” variant of the virus.
In total, more than 77,000 people in the UK have died within 28 days of taking a positive test. This puts the country on a level with Italy.
Only in the US, Brazil, India and Mexico have more people died from Covid-19.

Compared to EU countries, the country has a head start when it comes to vaccinating residents. Johnson has placed his hopes on that.
